A short Documentary produced by Burr Beard (11:45) taken from a larger work where Beard worked with Jack Wright and local historians to tell this story along with with the discovery of five new coal mining songs.
The coal ming history involves trade unionists and The Knights of Labor —and a major coal strike in 1884-1885 that would lead to the formation of the United Mineworkers of America in Columbus. Much of this story takes place in rural Perry and Athens Counties. And the meetings that were held in Robinson’s Cave in New Straitsville….
